Pope Francis will be inaugurating the Year of Jubilee in Rome on December 24th at the
Christmas Eve celebration. He has commissioned all bishops to hold a special Diocesan Jubilee Mass on Sunday, December 29th, the Feast of the Holy Family, calling together the faithful from each diocese to their respective Cathedrals.

In keeping with Pope Francis’ invitation to the entire Church, and in unity with him and their respective bishops, I am inviting the people of the diocese to gather with me on Sunday, December 29th at 10:30 a.m. at our Cathedral Church in Corner Brook.

There we will gather as pilgrims around a newly commissioned cross. As symbol of our
hope the cross will become the centre of numerous activities in each one of our
communities in the coming year, and well be the focus of reflection, prayer,
pilgrimage, acts of mercy and sacramental celebrations.

This Jubilee Mass will include a glorious procession throughout the Cathedral behind the cross, the formal pronouncement of the opening of the Jubilee of hope in our diocese, and the introduction of a program of activities that are sure to revitalize our parishes and families. For those who are able, please come; for those unable to do so, join us virtually.

Let us come together and be reconciled and renewed, as brothers and sisters one with the other, in the shadow of our Saviour’s Cross, at the altar ain the true presence of our Lord, Jesus the Christ.
